Job Summary:
The Digital Repository Archivist is responsible for managing and preserving digital collections within the library's digital repository. This role involves organizing, cataloging, and providing access to digital materials, ensuring their long-term usability and accessibility. The Digital Repository Archivist will collaborate with various stakeholders, including librarians, researchers, and IT professionals, to enhance the library's digital resources and contribute to the institution's mission of promoting knowledge and research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies for the acquisition, organization, description, and preservation of digital assets within the library's digital repository.
- Create and maintain metadata standards to ensure efficient discovery and retrieval of digital resources.
- Collaborate with library staff and subject specialists to identify, evaluate, and prioritize materials for digital preservation.
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure the accuracy and consistency of digital content and associated metadata.
- Stay updated with emerging trends and best practices in digital preservation, metadata standards, and information retrieval systems.
- Ensure compliance with copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and ethical considerations when managing digital collections.
- Collaborate with IT professionals to resolve technical issues related to the digital repository and implement appropriate storage and backup solutions.
- Provide reference and research assistance to library users seeking access to digital resources.
- Promote the digital collections through outreach activities, including workshops, presentations, and online exhibitions.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to digital preservation and access.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to digital preservation activities.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, practices, and standards, including digital preservation and metadata standards (e.g., Dublin Core, METS, PREMIS).
- Proficiency in using archival management systems, digital asset management systems, and content management systems.
- Familiarity with emerging technologies and tools in digital preservation, metadata management, and digital repository systems.
- Understanding of copyright laws, intellectual property rights, and ethical considerations related to digital collections.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve issues related to digital preservation.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, with a proactive and self-motivated approach.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and changing priorities within the digital repository field.
